Consider a Gift that Gives Twice
Each new fairly traded Shanti Uganda jewelery and bag was hand-made with love by one of the 22 women in our Women’s Income Generating Group.
The jewellery was created by hand-rolling a long strip of recycled paper over a pin to create the hole, then varnished and fastened with a clasp. Each bag is made with a combination of Ugandan Batik printed fabric. Each product is unique and money goes directly to the women to help them accomplish their goals.
The Shanti Uganda Society has carried out three training programs for members of our Income Generating Training Program. Each woman must be HIV positive and either a grandmother taking care of multiple grandchildren, a widow or in a situation of extreme poverty. Upon graduation, participants become members of our women's group receive a certificate of graduation, all of the supplies needed to begin her craft and ongoing support and education.
In the end, the women support a collective total of 170 children and grandchildren and put much of their new earnings towards their children’s schooling.
